Registrar Position at Dunstan Hospital 2021

We have 1 full time, 6 month RHM Registrar position for the 2021 academic year to fill,

from 2nd August 2021 to 30th January 2022.

(This has recently become vacant due to a change in circumstance for someone).

Dunstan Hospital is a 24 bed rural hospital located in Clyde, Central Otago.

Registrars will join a senior clinical team providing acute care and rural hospital inpatient care. We are well supported by specialist services in the Southern DHB and work closely with local GP’s to care for a community of over 30,000 people. Our hospital services a large area including Roxburgh, Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka.

Clinical services at Dunstan Hospital include: Acute 24-hour 24 bed inpatient care, rehabilitation and palliative care, and a 3-bed high dependency unit. We look after primary afterhours care from 6pm, and have on-site radiology (incl. CT) and lab who are on call overnight. In addition are a number of outpatient clinics and community services.

As a team we strive to provide a supportive and rewarding learning environment for Registrars, with plenty of opportunities to take responsibility for the assessment and management of acute patients. All the seniors are trained in point of care ultrasound. A number of seniors are involved in teaching with the University of Otago through the Rural Postgraduate Programme. We also host undergraduate students of various disciplines.

Dunstan Hospital has close links with primary care, with regular liaison meetings and joint CME events. Those registrars hoping to remain in the area and complete their GP training should put that in their applications and we can facilitate those introductions.

Finally, Central Otago offers a nice community to slot into. There are plenty of outdoors activities in the region, not least being some of NZ’s best mountain biking. There is also an increasing array of excellent cafes and eating places.
