Dunstan Hospital is a modern, purpose built facility which includes a 24 acute bed inpatient ward (including a three bed High Dependency Unit) and provides secondary health services to around 25,000 people living in the wider Central Otago and Wanaka regions.

Nursing Director

Part time – 0.30 FTE

 

This new part-time post will be based at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde, Central Otago.  Situated 2.5 hours away from the base hospital in Dunedin, we are passionate about rural health care and serving our rural communities.

 

This role is responsible for ensuring the nursing workforce are developed in a manner which provides for contemporary models of care appropriate for a rural environment and are supported to grow and aspire to work at the top of their scope of practice.  The role will provide strategic, nursing leadership from a professional perspective, provide professional advice to the CEO, Clinical Services Manager and others in the clinician management partnership on matters relating to Nursing Practice.  The post-holder will foster excellence in quality nursing standards, competencies, professional conduct and practice.

 

As a member of the Management Team, you will be involved in developing and implementing the overall strategic direction of the organisation and committed to implementing SDHB’s Primary and Community Strategy.

 

To be successful in this position you will:

  • have a relevant nursing postgraduate qualification or on a confirmed pathway to achieve this

  • possess current knowledge of professional nursing practice issues

  • have strong clinical leadership skills

  • have clinical credibility

  • have an interest/experience in rural health

  • have experience in working in clinical partnerships

  • have an understanding of the legislative requirements under the HPCA Act 2003

Clinical Services Manager

Based at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde, Central Otago, this new full time position reports to the Chief Executive and is responsible for providing management of clinical services including activity and capacity planning, health targets, human resource management, quality and risk management, financial performance and service delivery improvements.  As a member of the Management Team, you will be involved in developing and implementing the overall strategic direction of the organisation and committed to implementing SDHB’s Primary and Community Strategy.

Registrar Positions at Dunstan Hospital

 

 

We have 2 full time Registrar positions for the 2021-2022 academic year,

(4 x 6 month placements), commencing in February 2021.

Applicants would preferably be registrars who are on the RHM training program.

 

Dunstan Hospital is a 24 bed acute care rural hospital located in Clyde, Central Otago.

Registrars will join a senior clinical team providing acute care and rural hospital inpatient care. We are well supported by specialist services in the Southern DHB and work closely with local GP’s to care for a community of over 30,000 people. Our hospital services a large area including Roxburgh, Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka.

 

Clinical services at Dunstan Hospital include: Acute 24-hour 24 bed inpatient care, rehabilitation and palliative care, and a 3-bed high dependency unit. We look after primary afterhours care from 6pm, and have on-site radiology (incl. CT) and lab who are on call overnight. In addition are a number of outpatient clinics and community services.

 

As a team we strive to provide a supportive and rewarding learning environment for Registrars, with plenty of opportunities to take responsibility for the assessment and management of acute patients. All the seniors are trained in point of care ultrasound. A number of seniors are involved in teaching with the University of Otago through the Rural Postgraduate Programme. We also host undergraduate 5th year medical students.

 

Dunstan Hospital has close links with primary care, with regular liaison meetings and joint CME events. Those registrars hoping to remain in the area and complete their GP training should put that in their applications and we can facilitate those introductions.

 

Finally, Central Otago offers a nice community to slot into. There are plenty of outdoors activities in the region, not least being some of NZ’s best mountain biking. There is also an increasing array of excellent cafes and eating places.
